• CFG and Barco Set up China JV to Promote Film Digitalization

    China Film Group and Belgium-based Barco Group on August 23 announced in Beijing the establishment of a China JV to jointly promote digitalization of Chinese films, and digital cinema construction in China. It is understood that SARFT vice-chief Zhang Peimin attended the opening ceremony.

    Central Studio of News Reels Production, and Beijing Enoch View Digital Media Co Ltd, on August 24 held a signing ceremony for the co-pro documentary film “The Great Wall” (Chang Cheng). As introduced, the film will be shot on IMAX cameras and is expected to screen during summer vacation of 2013.

    It is understood that Enoch View released its proprietary 2D to 3D conversion tech at “Siggraph2011” held in Vancouver this August.

    The 2nd Ningbo 9-Minutes Original Short Film Festival kicked off on August 28 in Ningbo, Zhejiang province. A total of 52 film scripts were selected from over 400 submitted works.

    A new section for “18-Minute Films” has been added into the festival as the organizing committee attempts to introduce more talented young directors to the public.

    A total of five Chinese filmmaking giants (Huayi Brothers, Bona Film. Galloping Horse Film & TV Production, Enlight Pictures, and Mei Ah Entertainment) jointly announced on August 25, at the China Internet Conference held in Beijing, that they are to move into the market of new media film production. As learned, the new media films are expected to be around 5-minutes long and adaptable to mobile phone and other new media platforms.
