• China Has 174m Active Microblog Accounts, Users to Exceed 250m by Year-End

    Latest statistics released by Analysys International show that China has a total of 174 million active microblog users by the end of Q2 2011. It is expected that total microblog users in China will exceed 250 million by the end of this year, with over 50% penetration rate among Chinese netizens.

  • Baidu to Cease Microblog Business

    China’s leading searching engine Baidu on August 8 announced that it will close its microblog business “shuo ba” (t.baidu.com) on August 22. In the announcement Baidu also asked users to transfer individual data and files before the deadline.

    Baidu did not disclose any detailed information on why the business will close.

  • Tencent “Micro-Space” on Test

    Tencent recently announced the debut of the test edition of its “micro-space”, a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) tool and an integrated platform of Tencent Microblog, QQ Space, and IM software.

    It is reported that famous brands Nike, GM, and Coca Cola are included on the list to experience the trial service of “Micro-Space”.

  • 2011 Shanghai Book Fair to Open on Aug 17

    “2011 Shanghai Book Fair”, co-hosted by GAPP and Shanghai Municipal Government, will be held at the Shanghai Exhibition Center during August 17 to August 23. It is expected that the fair will attract nearly 500 publishing houses with over 150,000 kinds of books on exhibition.

    As reported, Chongqing will be the main guest city to participate in the coming fair.

    In August 2009, Sina, one of China's major online portals and MVAS providers, launched its micro-blogging service Weibo. The service became an instant hit with Chinese users and by March 2011 had accumulated 140 million registered users. There is no doubt that Weibo has emerged to become a major new channel for both personal and business communication in China.
