Televisa to Relay CCTV
November 03, 1997

Chinese and Mexican national station presidents have signed a letter of intent to bring CCTV’s international channel to Central and South America. According to the letter of intent, Mexico’s Televisa will have exclusive rights to relay via satellite CCTV’s international channel CCTV-4 to the Latin American continent.

A CCTV delegation, led by station President Yang Weiguang, visited Mexico from Oct. 22 to 24 as part of its current tour of four continents to secure wider worldwide carriage for China’s international flagship channel.

Channel encryption and Spanish captioning is now being trialled before Televisa, Latin America’s largest television service provider, begins transmission of CCTV-4.

During the visit, Yang discussed further co-operation with Emilio Azcarraga Jean, Televisa President. The two discussed sales of Latin American soccer matches and CCTV’s future acquisition of Televisa dramas.
