Anke Redl

Anke Redl is half-German and half-British. She represents the third generation of her family living in China.
Early in the 20th century, her grandfather came to Changsha in Hunan Province where he sold the Chinese synthetic, indigo, on the Mainland. This ultimately explains why Mao jackets were coloured blue!
Ms. Redl grew up in Africa and Hong Kong after graduating from a German Swiss School in Hong Kong. She is a Graduate of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in the UK and has been a scholar at Beijing University. She also attended German universities in Heidelberg and Cologne.
Ms. Redl speaks, reads and writes fluent Chinese Mandarin. She is also bilingual in both German and English.
Ms. Redl began her professional media career as a producer with WDR/German TV. She later worked for the China Bureau of Reuters TV where she covered major events such as the death of Deng Xiaoping, the Hong Kong handover as well as media reports on North Korea.
Having focused on the Chinese media industry in her graduate studies, Ms. Redl moved on to work for Financial Times Media & Telecoms in the UK. She subsequently joined CMM Intelligence as a partner in 1999. She has been living in Beijing for over 10 years now.
