New York local time November 11 saw China National Publications Import & Export (Group) Corp (CNPIEC) formally open a Xinhua Bookstore in Manhattan, its third in New York and the sixth outside China.
The Xinhua Bookstore in Manhattan is the third cooperation with overseas Chinese Ms. Zhao Jie, following two bookstores in Queens and Brooklyn. It covers a business area of 500 square meters and sells nearly 20,000 Chinese book titles involving humanities and social sciences, technology, lifestyle and health care.

November 8 saw the CCTV 2011 Primetime Ad Auction raise RMB12.6687 billion (US$1.90898 billion), up 15.52% year on year. This is a record high in the 17 years of the auction, according to vice director He Haiming of the CCTV Ad Center. Food (including beverages), home appliances and finance (including insurance) are the top 3 industries by adspend. Auto and tourism showed fast growth. Liquor producer Wuliangye Group spent RMB405 million (US$61 million) at the CCTV auction, the biggest spender.

Product placement will never appear in the CCTV 2011 Spring Festival Gala, introduced vice director Chen Linchun of the large program production center under CCTV, at 2011 CCTV Prime Ad Auction launched on November 8. The 2010 edition of China’s most popular show was widely criticized for its inclusion of multiple product placements.

October 28 saw the State Administration of Radio, Film and TV (SARFT) release the third list of excellent animation series for 2010. It suggests all TV channels at all levels should give priority to broadcasting such series, issuing a circular to its provincial-level broadcasting bureaus, China Central TV (CCTV) and China Education TV (CETV).
The third list of excellent animations and production companies is as follows.

Convergence of the three networks (internet, telecom and cable TV) will create a RMB600 billion (US$90 billion) market, estimated Wu Hequan, team leader of the ‘triple play’ group directly under the State Council, at the 2010 The Optics Valley of China International Optoelectronic Exposition and Forum held in Wuhan from November 2 to 5.
