- iResearch: Search Engine Market Exceeds RMB3 Billion in Q3, Baidu with 73%10/28/2010 - 02:44
China’s Search Engine Market size is expected to reach RMB3.13 billion (US$470.13 million) in Q3, up 16.3% quarter on quarter (QoQ) and 58.9% year on year (YoY), according to market research company iResearch. Baidu increased its market share to 72.9%, up 1.9% QoQ. On the contrary, Google’s market share decreased to 24.6% from 27.3% in Q2. China’s online ad market size will reach RMB10 billion (US$1.5 billion) in Q3. Search engine ads occupied 31.1% of all.

October 22 saw Chinese search engine Baidu.com post its unaudited financial results for Q3. The highlights are as follows.
- Total revenues in 2010 Q3 were RMB2.256 billion (US$337.2 million), a 76.4% increase from the corresponding period in 2009.
- Operating profit in 2010 Q3 was RMB1.181 billion (US$176.6 million), a 126.6% increase from the corresponding period in 2009.
- Net income in 2010 Q3 was RMB1.047 billion (US$156.4 million), a 112.4% increase from the corresponding period in 2009.
Baidu.com currently expects to generate total revenues ranging from RMB2.37 billion (US$3545.78 million) to RMB2.44 billion (US$366.29 million) for 2010 Q4, representing an 88% to 93.5% year-over-year increase.

With guidance from the China Foundation for Disabled Persons and the China Association of the Blind, Protection & Ease and Baidu.com have jointly launched China's first mobile phone platform for blind people via Baidu.com's search engine open platform. The service was developed by Cao Jun, chairman and CEO of Beijing-based Protection & Ease and enables blind users to make phone calls, send messages, and surf the mobile Internet more easily.
- China Exports 109 Book Titles to Vietnam and Indonesia10/28/2010 - 02:41
The General Administration of Press and Publications (GAPP) and the Press and Publication Bureau of Guangxi province have jointly organized Chinese book fairs lasting 10 days in Vietnam and Indonesia. The Chinese delegation signed 109 contracts and letters of intent on copyright export and book co-publishing with book publishers and distributors in Vietnam and Indonesia.

October 22 saw China Children's Press & Publication Group (CCPPG) announce that its three publications all exceeded 1 million in monthly circulation, citing the Sino Publication Audit Center. Its Pre-school Pictorial (Youer Huabao), a monthly magazine created in 1982 and targeting children aged 2-7 and their parents and teachers, has a monthly circulation of 1.7 million. The second title, We Love Science (Women Ai Kexue), created in 1960 and targeting children aged 5-15, has a monthly circulation of 1.2 million, The third is Children’s Literature (Ertong Wenxue), created in 1963 and targeting children above 9, with a monthly circulation of 1.1 million.
