China's Online Video Market Doubles Revenues in 2009

The Chinese online video market made RMB844 million (US$123.57 million) in total revenue in 2009, marking a year-on-year increase of 95.4%, according to the research company Analysys International. Earnings in the online video market's Q4 in 2009 were higher than the RMB307.01 million (US$44.95 million) recorded in the first three quarters. Analysys International highlighted that fast-moving consumer goods and online games were the major source of advertising revenue for online video sites. It also predicted that in 2010 the stage is set for fierce competition between Chinese online video sites that follow the "Hulu" format and those that embrace the format of "Hulu + User Generated Content (UGC)", such as the competition between Youku and CNTV.
